An Initial Investigation of Neural Changes in Overweight Adults with Food Cravigns after Emotional Freedom Techniques

I’ve mentioned numerous times before that Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT tapping) is a science-based energy healing modality and it can help with many issues, including excess weight and food/sugar cravings.  I have used EFT to help several women with these issues.

This post is for the left-brainers (including myself) out there who wish to see for themselves actual research images and papers showing how brain activity calms down after Clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques therapy. EFT tapping is a technique that combines cognitive and exposure therapy with acupoint stimulation by gentle tapping.

This study is titled “An Initial Investigation of Neural Changes in Overweight Adults with Food Cravings after Emotional Freedom Techniques”.  It is the first research study that documented neurological changes in the brain before and after EFT tapping.

Brain activity in response to food craving stimuli was mapped using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). It revealed deactivation in the Superior Temporal Gyrus and lateral orbitofrontal cortex following EFT treatment. The control group showed continued activation in these areas.

Participant mean scores decreased by 18% for the EFT group and 5% for the control group.  The findings indicated EFT may decrease limbic region brain activity and reduce food-related symptoms in overweight/obese individuals.

This study also illuminates the neurological mechanisms at work behind the many successful outcome studies of EFT for weight loss. Here's the link in case you're interested in reading the research paper
